Learning is a lifelong process. Transformation through learning leads to self-direction and self-awareness. It is never too late to develop, practice, or sharpen Essential Skills. Adults bring with them life experience, values, and knowledge to their learning. Adults learn in a variety of ways through consistency and compromise. Hinton Adult Learning is dedicated to promoting and supporting meaningful lifelong learning opportunities for every adult learner.
Hinton Employment and Learning Place offers many different family programs to provide our community and families with:
• Parent Peer Support Programs
• Circle of Security Parent Program
• Family Literacy Events
• BOOKS (Books Offer Our Kids Success) Programs
• E.L.L. Literacy and Parenting Skills for Newcomers
Our family programs are primarily funded by the Community Adult Learning Program, under the Advanced Education Ministry. Hinton Employment and Learning Place has been running Family Literacy Programs since 2017 with the focus being on the adult learner. We focus on each learner holistically, striving to meet their physical, emotional and social needs. Literacy and essential skills of the learner, such as oral communication, numeracy, reading, writing, digital technology and more, are always considered with all of our learners.
Parents and caregivers are a child’s first and most important teacher. Thus, it is important for parents and caregivers to be supported in their parenting journey, as well as learn literacy tips and tricks to help children grow and flourish. Learning alongside children, or learning for their children’s sake in a safe, non-threatening way and connecting adults to lifelong learning is the ultimate outcome.
Registration is required for all programs.
